April 27, 2006 marks the 70th anniversary of Bellco Credit Union. We’ve prepared a little historical tour of Bellco’s past to mark the occasion. Think of how much the world has changed in 70 years! Bellco has been providing financial services to Denver area residents since the days before cell phones, ATMs, and computers. But no matter what changes, one thing stays the same: Bellco Credit Union is the one organization totally dedicated to your financial success.




1936 Bellco Credit Union is established by employees of Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company in response to the financial instability of the early 1930s. Bellco’s bylaws are completed on April 27, 1936.




See other events that happened in the 30s and 40s1950’s – 1960’s Bellco continues to serve telephone company employees, providing auto loans and savings for the growing postwar market. The number of people working for “the phone company” grows, as telephones become commonplace in Denver’s homes and businesses. Those telephone employees turn to Bellco for their financial needs.See other events that happened in the 50s and 60s.




1984 Deregulation of the Bell System sets the stage for Bellco to add to our membership base through Select Employee Groups, (SEG). SEGS are businesses which offer Bellco membership as an additional benefit to their employees. Family members are also eligible for membership. Many new companies start to grow in Denver, and the area becomes known as a leader in the telecommunications industry.See other events that happened in the 70s and 80s




1950’s – 1960’s Bellco continues to serve telephone company employees, providing auto loans and savings for the growing postwar market.




1984 Deregulation of the Bell System sets the stage for Bellco to add to our membership base through Select Employee Groups, (SEG). SEGS are businesses which offer Bellco membership as an additional benefit to their employees. Family members are also eligible for membership.




1990's Bellco expands its operations and membership base, with the addition of several new branches. In 1998, Bellco launches its first Web site.




2000 - 2003 Bellco continues to add new branches, and residents of many areas in suburban Denver become eligible to join the credit union. Bellco invests wisely in new technology, and a new operating system enables us to better serve our members.




2004 Bellco introduces Relationship Rewards, a program that recognizes and rewards members for using our financial products and services. New online tools enable members to learn about the products and services that are the best for their needs. An Online Security Center provides members with information on ways to protect themselves from identity thieves.




2005 Bellco continues to meet members’ needs through expansion of two new branches, Parker and Southwest Plaza. This brings Bellco’s branch network to a total of 13 offices around the Denver metro area. Bellco provides massive assistance to a small credit union in Mississippi that was damaged by Hurricane Katrina.




2006 With over 150,000 members, Bellco is the 45th largest credit union in the United States, the 2nd largest in Colorado and the largest in Denver. In March, Bellco sponsors the Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade. In April, Bellco announces the availability of Business Services, a full range of business banking products. In May, Bellco opens its 14th branch, at Aurora City Place.Governor Bill Owens declares April 27, 2006 to be “Bellco Day” in the State of Colorado. Readthe Proclamation Here.
